Phonics is a broad term we use for teaching letter-sound correspondence. Some children will be able to learn phonics skills on their own, others will need need direct instruction.
Children move through a series of developmental stages as they learn to read.
These stages include:

- Partial Alphabetic Phase
- Full Alphabetic Phase
- Consolidated Alphabetic Phase
