Phonics

Phonics is a broad term we use for teaching letter-sound correspondence.  Some children will be able to learn phonics skills on their own, others will need need direct instruction.

Children move through a series of developmental stages as they learn to read.
These stages include:
  • Pre-Alphabetic Phase
  • Partial Alphabetic Phase
  • Full Alphabetic Phase
  • Consolidated Alphabetic Phase
